Mahabharata is an epic.
The main event in this is the Kurukshetra War. War to establish Dharma. Those who directly or indirectly caused the war,
the great warriors who participated, and the characters are causal births.
While Krishna is the real Supreme Soul, some are immortals, some are divine
beings, and some are born only for that war. All of them were the steps that
Jaganmata moved and created to set foot in Kurukshetra at that time, and to
destroy the unrighteousness of Dwapara Yuga.
The events that were created by Jaganmata are beyond human imagination.
Shantanu meeting Ganga, the curse of the eight Vasus, the birth of
Matsyagandhi, the birth of Vedavyas through Parashara Maharshi and Matsyagandhi,
the oath of Amba, the jealousy in the mind of Gandhari who was enjoying royal
pleasures, the emergence of Draupadi . etc . . Thus, the many events and lives
that have occurred in the cycle of time, and finally reaching Kurukshetra, are
all the will of Jaganmata. Some events seem impossible, some events are
surprising. All of this journey and goal is towards the establishment of
Dharma. It is for the establishment of Dharma.

Vidurudu, a virtuous character in MahaBharata. One of the few who never entered Kurukshetra, battle ground of Pandavas and Kauravas.
Once upon a time, Shantanu, great king of Kuru dynasty, married Godess Ganga. With her, he had a son, Devavratudu. Many years after Ganga left him, Shantanu falls in love with Satyavati. For their marriage, Devavratudu promises Satyavati's father, never to be married, have sons and sit on throne.
Shantanu and Satyavati procured two children, Chitrangadudu and Vichitraveeryudu. Shantanu dies when the boys are very young. After a few years Chitrangadudu marries Ambika and Ambalika, pincesses of Kasi Kingdom. Both Chitrangadudu and Vichitraveeryudu dies childless.
Satyavati, before marrying Santanu, gives birth to Sage Veda Vyasa through Sage Parasara. As the Kuru dynasty falls into troubles without a king on throne, Satyavati calls VedaVyasa, who by Devaranyayam Dharma, is eligible to impregnate Ambika and Ambalika. At that time VedaVyasa in penance with severe rules. By appearance he was scary with long hair, red eyes and stern face.
IN first attempt Ambika closes her eyes looking at him. Dhrutarashtra, father of Kauravas was born blind. Second, attempt with Ambalika, resulted in Pandu, as she felt fear by looking at Vyasa. When Ambika was requested to go to Vyasa again, she sent her maid servant who gave birth to Vidurudu.
Once upon a time, Sage Mandavyudu, after roaming the world, visiting punya teerthalu and punyakshrtralu, comes to a kingdom. There he vows silence and starts penance. During that time, few thieves enter palace and escape to jungle with bags filled with jewels.
They approached and hid nearby trees to the place where Saga Mandavyudu is performing penance. King's soldiers caught them and also the sage. As the sage was under vow, he didnt say a word. When all of them were presented to the king, he ordered all of them to be "shoolaarohana". ( it means to be seated on a spear).
Over a few days, the spear entered Sage Mandavya's body and protruded out at neck. Still he was alive. Other sages came to know of this and approached him questioning. He said, " I am not this body. This body cannot express any of the feelings. So what is there to complain? Moreover this must be past life's karma. " Soldiers who at vigilance nearby, heard this and rushed to the king and informed about the sage on the spear. King ran to the place and ordered the sage to be removed from spear. But the task was impossible as the spear was inside the body. So the soldiers cut off the spear head and left the remaining part in sage's body.
The sage then wanted to know in which birth, what time, what instance created the karma which resulted this situation in this life. He went to Yama loka where Chitraguptudu keeps record of all souls in eternity. There Yama told him that, '"IN one of your previous lives, as a boy, you used to catch hold of dragonflies, pierce them with needles n enjoy their plight".
The sage then asked, "How old was I?"
Yama replied, "about nine or ten years."
Then Mandavyudu questioned Yam, " till the age of 14, for instance of justice and judgement, considered juvenile and age of ignorance. Any act during that age cannot be considered criminal. As Lord of Dharmam, how can you give such severe punishment to me? You have done injustice. You have done adharmam.". Then the sage cursed Yamadharmaraj, "You too have to bear the consequences of your doing. So, Yamadharmaraja, you shall be born in human world, even though you are born extremely intelligent, knowing all shastras, well educated, extremely virtuous, clearly understands Dharmam, able to assess future actions of humans, you shall remain completely ineffective in your actions. Feel worthless. Though capable to rule a kingdom, shall remain as a servant."
In Dwaparayuga, Yamadharmaraju was born as Vidura.
Vidura repeatedly cautioned Dhritarastra and Duryodhana about the consequences of their actions. He kept vigilant on Padavas.
He repeatedly preached Darmam to all.
However, nobody listened to him as he was only a minister and servant to the king.
At the end of his life, his atma leaves body and merges into Dharmaraju.
